House of Saint Hilarion ​ High & Low Aged Care Facility

The House of St. Hilarion, a 143-bed complex, is the first stage of a 300-bed master plan for the Seaton site. Designed to accommodate both high and low care facilities, the House of St. Hilarion includes a purpose-built, 30-bed high-dependency dementia wing, specifically catering to individuals with more acute needs. Strategically located allied health areas allow for the integration of essential services, such as dentistry, physiotherapy, and podiatry, providing a comprehensive range of care. Unlike older, institutional models of aged care, the new design fosters an open, welcoming environment that encourages greater interaction with the broader community. By positioning activity spaces, dining areas, and lounges in close proximity, the design forms a large Community Centre capable of hosting major celebrations, concerts, and other social events. Attention to communal spaces enhances the resident experience, with facilities such as an in-house cinema, public café, library, and hairdresser, promoting both independence and social interaction. These spaces are designed to not only serve residents but to also embrace their families, friends, and the wider community. While the House of St. Hilarion operates as an aged care facility, it has been thoughtfully designed to feel like a true home for its residents, preserving much of their cultural and heritage values. The chapel is a central feature, designed to facilitate regular mass services for residents, their families, and the wider community. The spirit of La Passeggiata—the Italian tradition of the evening stroll—finds its place in the enclosed internal street. Generous garden areas, with herb gardens, olive trees, and fragrant plants that evoke happy memories, lead to a traditional piazza featuring al fresco dining areas, BBQs, and a bocce court. Families are encouraged to use these outdoor spaces to cook, dine, and spend quality time with their loved ones.
